The 3 Pillars of Husbandry

Every species is different, but these three elements are universal.

Thermal Gradient

Reptiles need a "hot side" and a "cool side" to regulate their body temperature. This is essential for digestion and immunity.

Common Husbandry Mistakes

Even experienced keepers make mistakes. Here are the most common issues and how to fix them immediately.

Why is my reptile refusing to eat?
The #1 cause is incorrect temperature. If a reptile is too cold, they cannot digest food. Check your thermometer guns and ensure your basking spot is hot enough.
Why is my humidity dropping so fast?
This is common in glass tanks with mesh tops. Switch to a PVC enclosure with a solid top, or cover part of your screen with foil to trap moisture.
Do I need a thermostat?
Yes! Every heat source (heat mat, CHE, basking bulb) must be regulated by a thermostat to prevent burns and overheating.
Is sand safe for my Bearded Dragon?
Calcium sand is dangerous and causes impaction. For healthy dragons with proper temperatures, a mix of organic topsoil and washed playsand is safe. Avoid loose substrate for babies.
How long should I leave the lights on?
Reptiles need a day/night cycle. Keep lights (Heat & UVB) on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours. Use a digital timer to automate this.
Can I house two reptiles together?
Generally, no. Most reptiles (Bearded Dragons, Ball Pythons, Geckos) are solitary. Co-habitation leads to stress, fighting, and resource competition.
